Based on in-depth research and mapping, each issue of ISLANDERS reveals another facet of the ordinary condition of the island. As such, the zine is a first step in our process towards envisioning spaces and territories that are more caring for their residents.

Drift Islands

This book brings together three islands: Shodoshima, Lantau, and Yeonpyeong-do through the intertwined voices of the sea, crabs, and humans. Created by a collective of three artists, it reflects on island life as a shared ecology shaped by currents, migrations, and human activity, inviting readers to think and feel beyond a human-centered perspective.


The cover and back cover form a shift in perspective: on the front, we see a crab from a human perspective, on the back, we see the island with how the crabs perceive it. Illustrated by the artists, this gesture is more than a visual design, it is an invitation to reposition ourselves, to step away from familiar human viewpoints and enter another living beings on the islands’ way of sensing the world. Across the book, the left pages present the artists’ human perspectives, the right pages express the sensibilities of crabs, while the voice of the sea flows through the pages, connecting moments of residency, research, and exchange. As I read, I gradually realize that I do not need to approach this book through habitual, human-centered modes of “understanding.” The text is no longer something waiting to be decoded, but becomes a form of shifting perception—sometimes slow, sometimes fragmented, sometimes impossible to fully grasp. As I begin to let go of expectations for a singular narrative or clear conclusions and it slightly changed how I see island life.

本書透過海、螃蟹與人類三種交織的聲音，連結小豆島、大嶼山與延坪島三個島嶼。由三位藝術家共同創作，反思島嶼生活作為一種由洋流、遷徙與人類行動所形塑的共享生態，並邀請讀者從人類之外的視角去思考與感受。


全書左頁為藝術家以人類的感受，右頁為螃蟹的感受，而海的聲音則流動於書頁之間，連結駐地、研究與交流的時間節點。在閱讀的過程中，我逐漸意識到，自己不需要以慣常、以人為中心的方式去「理解」這本書。文字不再只是等待被解讀的內容，而更像是一種流動的感知——有時緩慢、有時斷裂，有時甚至無法被完全掌握。當我嘗試放下對於單一敘事與清晰結論的期待，開始跟隨螃蟹們講述它們物種的故事和日常生活，閱讀本身也轉變成一種共處的經驗。
本書封面與封底構成了兩種視角：封面，是我們所看見的螃蟹；封底，則是螃蟹所看見的島嶼。這一前一後的視角由藝術家繪製，而它不只是圖像的設計，更像是一種邀請，邀請我們離開熟悉的人類視角，以島上其他生物的方式感知世界。
本書核心在於將生態理解為一種關係性與過程性的思考，關注生命如何在陸地與海洋之間持續交織。在面對破壞與再生的同時，也尋找共存的敘事，並進一步提問：我們是否能以不同的方式去傾聽——將海和螃蟹視為共居者，並重新理解我們所共享的脆弱且彼此連結的世界。當閱讀不再只是「人」的觀看，而是一種與他者同步的感受時，這本書也悄然改變了我們與世界




潮汐之間

《潮汐之間》一部富有詩意和哲思的散文，以坪洲這座島嶼出發，探討了個人與離島、人類與非人類島民、離島與城市、夢境與真實等諸多人生命題。


以坪洲為背景，透過個人經歷與夢境的交織，進行以島上人物為背景的文學創作。那些不張揚的小事，如天后廟前沉睡的黃狗、飄落整座島嶼的木棉花絮和隔壁小孩的哭泣，在她的筆下化為生命的呼吸。人與天、天與地、地與海、海與人之間的循環往復，應運而生。

作者介紹
曾在法國留學深造，專攻法語話語研究與戲劇實踐。疫情前，季明搬到小島，開始觀察島上的人物與生活，並因此培養了對海洋文學和生態小說的熱愛。她期望通過寫作，描繪我們的島嶼故事。

延續2023年於坪洲戲院舉行的展覽《一人一個與坪洲戲院的故事》，由《潮汐之間》作者、坪洲居民季明撰寫的坪洲戲院小誌將會在夏季市集推出。

在戲院沉寂數十載後被重新打開的空間裡，曾被銀幕照亮的面孔與聲音，化為五則「故事」，五則回憶。這些故事並非完整無缺，而如放映中的斷片，時而閃現、時而模糊，卻足以喚起對舊日坪洲的想像—一座曾經繁榮的島嶼，與今日的靜謐形成強烈對照。

小誌延續展覽的敘事方法，收集與轉譯口耳相傳的片段記憶，並會分成四冊，每一冊收錄五則故事，隨每季坪洲戲院市集輪流登場，如電影上映般循環流轉，讓讀者在文字之中，再次進入以前的島嶼生活。

This zine continues the 2023 exhibition “My Path to Peng Chau,” held at the long-closed Peng Chau Cinema, and is written by Peng Chau resident Jimmie Lu, who previously published a book on the island. It reassembles fragments of local memory through narrative.

Within a space reopened after more than thirty years, faces once illuminated by the cinema screen re-emerge as 5 stories. These stories are not continuous; like interrupted film reels, they flicker in and out of clarity. Yet they evoke vivid impressions of an earlier Peng Chau, its an crowded and vibrant island standing in stark contrast to its present quietness.

Extending the exhibition’s approach, the zine gathers and translates orally transmitted histories. Each volume contains five stories and is released seasonally, echoing the rhythm of a cinema program. Reading becomes a form of viewing, letting reader enter the daily lives of the island before
